Kazakhstan will host the Regional Ecological Summit from April 22 to 24 in Astana. Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, discussed preparations for the event with the UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan, Sarangoo Radnaaragchaa. The parties agreed to work on water resource issues for the summit and develop joint proposals. They also discussed cooperation in implementing the President’s initiatives aimed at strengthening international collaboration in this field. Notably, the Head of State has proposed the establishment of an International Water Organization under the UN and initiated the development of a Central Asian Framework Convention on Water Use.
«Kazakhstan is currently advancing a
series of international initiatives, including the creation of a Shanghai
Cooperation Organization (SCO) Water Research Center. We envision this center
as a practical mechanism for developing engineering solutions, exchanging
technologies, and training specialists,» Nurzhigitov said.
