Experts discuss draft of Kazakhstan’s new Constitution in Astana

The draft of a new Constitution has taken center stage in Kazakhstan. Experts say the broad public discussion reflects the practical implementation of the «Listening State» concept. Participants at a meeting at the Presidential Center reviewed the draft and gave a positive assessment of its provisions. In particular, experts highlighted the importance of measures aimed at ensuring the inviolability of private life, protecting personal data in the digital environment, and enshrining the role of the legal profession.

«The draft of the new Constitution features an extensive chapter on the protection of human rights and freedoms, as well as the role of the legal profession. I believe this is the right decision. The draft Constitution strengthens these guarantees. Kazakhstan’s greatest wealth is its people, and we can provide them with free legal assistance at any timesaid Professor Yesbergen Alaukhanov, Doctor of Law.

According to Yerlan Sairov, member of the Mazhilis, the lower house of Parliament, as Kazakhstan enters a new stage of political development, it must take into account the major geopolitical changes that have taken place worldwide over the past decade.

«We need a document that serves as a tool to preserve our country’s stability in uncertain times, while taking national interests into account. In this context, the new Constitution will provide mechanisms to maintain both stability and territorial integritySairov said.
