The referendum on the draft of the new Constitution marks a new stage in Kazakhstan’s development, Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbayev stated at a meeting of the upper house of Parliament. He said the draft Basic Law has been published, openly and broadly discussed, and carefully prepared. It takes into account all citizens’ proposals to the fullest extent possible. The Senate Speaker also noted that this is undoubtedly a clear confirmation of the implementation of the «Listening State» concept, which underpins the constitutional model of a Just Kazakhstan. The new version has sparked extensive public debate. Around 10,000 proposals have been submitted regarding the draft new Constitution. These initiatives came from Commission members, experts, civil society representatives, and businesses.
«The meticulous work of the Constitutional Commission and
the deputies who served on it deserves special recognition. In the coming
period, Senate members will actively engage in efforts to promote the referendum on the new Basic
Law. I am confident that during this crucial period, when the foundations of a
Just Kazakhstan are being strengthened, all Kazakh citizens will express
their civic position and take an active
part in the referendum,» said Maulen Ashimbayev, Chairperson of the Senate, the
upper house of the Kazakh Parliament.
