As part of a working visit to
Almaty, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev explored the scientific potential of
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. He toured the Farabi Hub Center for
Innovative Products and High-Tech Projects that has attracted over $20 million
in investment and hosts initiatives in AI, creative industries, and startups.
The university is also carrying out four major projects valued at 1.25 billion
tenge. The President was shown a microsatellite model developed jointly with a
Chinese university, as well as a spacecraft designed for various research
purposes. He also inspected a supercomputer cluster established with a $23
million investment. This equipment significantly reduces the time needed for
complex computations, enhances research efficiency, and provides new
opportunities for training specialists in IT and AI.
Afterwards, Tokayev met with the
university’s academic community. He noted that the new Constitution enshrines
the development of human capital, education, science, and innovation as
strategic priorities, which are now being actively advanced.
«Overall, much has been accomplished
in this area recently, but there is still more to be done. Over the past five
years, investment in science has increased sixfold. The number of research
universities in our country is growing, and their ties with industry are
strengthening. According to government data, over 200 commercial projects have
been launched. Thus, the University-Research-Innovation-Commerce ecosystem is
gradually taking shape. Science cities are being established, and construction
of technology parks and engineering centers has begun,» the
President said.
