Today, the Referendum-2026 online marathon began
at 9 a.m. as part of the national referendum The event will continue until 1
a.m. Over sixteen hours, five platforms will host discussions on the most
pressing topics and showcase innovative projects. Public figures and experts
will participate in the discussions. There will also be a talk-show platform
and an innovation zone, where everyone can see modern technological AI
solutions, domestic startups, and a hologram show. Additionally,
representatives of official bodies and experts will go live every two hours to
provide commentary on the progress of the national referendum. The program also
features brief interviews with guests and live connections from regions across
the country and abroad. The event is being broadcast live on the websites and
social media of domestic TV channels, media outlets, and news agencies.
«The most important point is that the issues we are now putting to a nationwide referendum will shape the future of every person - not only their own, but also that of their children and grandchildren. I believe that if this draft Constitution is adopted, similarly important decisions in the future will be made exclusively through referendums, thereby turning the principle that the citizens are the source of power into a legal norm rather than a declarative one,» noted Yerkin Abil, a member of the Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament.
«A referendum is one
of the forms of citizens’ participation in the country’s governance. The
referendum on the nuclear power plant and the constitutional changes introduced
in 2022 saw broad public involvement. Citizens took part directly in
discussions and in making decisions that affect the country,» said Magerram Magerramov, a member of the Mazhilis, the Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament.
