Kazakhstan is set to build a second nuclear power plant. The corresponding resolution was signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and entered into force on January 26. The second nuclear power plant will also be constructed in the Almaty region, specifically in the Zhambyl district. Both facilities will be located in the same region to enhance the reliability and stability of energy supply in southern Kazakhstan. Notably, the construction of Kazakhstan’s first nuclear power plant near the village of Ulken in the Almaty region was officially launched in August 2025. The right to build the facility was awarded to an international consortium led by Rosatom.
