AI safeguards the roads. In Kazakhstan, artificial intelligence technologies are being used to monitor highway defects. Inspections are conducted using mobile laboratories equipped with video cameras, sensors, and specialized measuring instruments. The system processes the collected data and offers specific engineering solutions. Thanks to AI technologies, the time required to analyze data has been reduced from four days to just four hours per 100 kilometers.
«A total of 32 indicators are used to identify road defects. These include defects such as rutting, cracks, their length, and traffic intensity, i.e., the number of vehicles traveling on the road. The system can determine all these parameters,» said Madiyar Abduali, leading specialist at the National Center for Quality of Road Assets.
In addition, young specialists in the road industry can enhance their
skills using the KazRoad VR virtual simulator. Thanks to this domestic
innovation, Kazakh students can complete multi-level assignments and remotely analyze
the quality of road construction materials.
