Kazakhstan allocates 240 billion tenge for geological exploration

In Kazakhstan, 20 major geological exploration projects will be implemented over the next three years. They are aimed at finding deposits of copper, gold, lead, zinc, rare earth elements, barite, and bauxite. The projects involve remote sensing data analysis, airborne geophysical and geochemical studies, and a range of fieldwork. A geological survey at a scale of 1:50,000 is planned across an area of 100,000 square kilometers. This modern approach improves the accuracy of geological forecasts. In addition, 240 billion tenge or $500 million has been allocated for seismic exploration and the creation of geological infrastructure. Plans also include modernizing laboratory and analytical facilities and digitalizing geodata. All these measures will be implemented in line with the Kazakh President’s instructions to expand geological exploration of the country using modern exploration methods.

«To improve the quality of geological forecasting, refine resource estimates, and expand the country’s mineral resource base, more detailed geological subsoil surveys are planned to begin in 2026 at a scale of 1:50,000. Conducting geological subsoil surveys at this scale is a widely used international practice. Detailed regional mapping forms the basis for identifying promising areas, reducing geological and investment risks, and ultimately attracting private investment in geological exploration and mineral extraction,» said Damir Kubenov, Deputy Chairman of the Geology Committee at the Kazakh Ministry of Industry and Construction.
