Soyuz-5/Sunkar rocket undergoes final checks ahead of launch

The first launch of the new Soyuz-5/Sunkar launch vehicle from the Baiterek launch complex is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. The project is being implemented jointly by Kazakhstan and Russia. At present, specialists continue comprehensive testing of more than forty different systems of the launch complex. It is noted that new engineering and technological solutions were applied in the development of both the rocket and the ground infrastructure. The decision to conduct additional tests and adjust the project’s launch timeline was made to ensure reliability and safety.

«Most of the work has been completed. Specialists have finished their training and practical internships, and the crews are ready to operate the launch complex. Currently, the vehicle is located at a dedicated site. Once autonomous testing is complete, it will be transferred onto the transport-erector unit and moved to the launch complex. There, the rocket will be raised to a vertical position for additional testing and final launch preparations,» said Aidyn Aimbetov, Chairman of the Baiterek joint venture.
