On March 15, Kazakh citizens working or studying abroad and those on business trips will be able to take part in the referendum. Overall, 71 polling stations will open in 54 countries. More than 14,000 Kazakh citizens are registered to vote abroad. According to the Foreign Ministry, referendum commissions have been established at Kazakhstan’s diplomatic missions abroad. All commission members have passed tests on their knowledge of the legislation and received certificates. Also, an online seminar on the procedures for conducting the campaign was organized for commission members.
«In connection with the escalation of military actions in the Middle East, as well as the security situation in Ukraine and Ethiopia, polling stations at Kazakhstan’s diplomatic missions in Iran, Israel, Jordan, Qatar, the UAE, Oman, Lebanon, Kuwait, Ukraine, and Ethiopia will be temporarily closed. The polling station at the Kazakh consulate in Dubai will also remain temporarily closed,» said Yerlan Zhetybayev, official spokesperson of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.
Over 8,500 Kazakh citizens evacuated from Middle Eastern countries
According to the ministry, more than 8,500 Kazakh citizens have
been evacuated from the Middle East so far. Authorized
government agencies and airlines are involved in the repatriation effort. In
addition to flights, some citizens are being evacuated by
land through border crossings with Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkmenistan. Efforts
to bring Kazakh citizens home from the conflict zone will continue in the
coming days. The ministry also
reported that no injuries or fatalities among Kazakh nationals have been
recorded.
