More than 100 AI startups are currently operating in Kazakhstan. Venture investment in the sector has increased fivefold over the past three years, rising from $14 million to $73 million. Overall, the country has developed a rapidly growing ecosystem of innovative projects in the field of artificial intelligence. This is stated in the first country report on AI development. According to the authors of the study, the adoption of AI could provide an additional annual increase of up to 2% in Kazakhstan’s GDP. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also addressed the issue at the National Kurultai (Congress), noting that the country has embarked on a path of accelerated digitalization and the integration of AI into all spheres of public and private life. One example of the AI use at the government level is Smart Data Ukimet.
«Within this framework, a key priority is to establish the collection of sectoral data from government agencies, which will enable the future development of industry-specific language models. Three Kazakh-language models have already been created, trained on the history of Kazakhstan, and they demonstrate stronger expertise in this domain than other models. The current task is to scale AI-driven efficiency across sectors, including agriculture, industry, healthcare, and beyond,» noted Dmitry Mun, Kazakh Vice Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development.
