New Constitution sets guidelines for Kazakhstan’s development

On March 15, Kazakhstan will hold a nationwide referendum on the draft new Constitution. Experts note that the amendments to the Basic Law are intended to solidify strategic guidelines for the country’s development, as well as its foreign and domestic policy. In particular, the document reflects Kazakhstan’s commitment to peaceful development and expanding cooperation with all countries based on mutual benefit. The draft Basic Law emphasizes the country’s dedication to diplomatic mechanisms and international dialogue. According to Senate member Nurlan Beknazarov, who participated in the drafting and discussion of the initiatives as part of the Constitutional Reform Commission, a separate set of amendments is aimed at strengthening economic stability. At the constitutional level, the status of the national currency, the tenge, is enshrined, as well as the National Bank’s right to issue it. These provisions strengthen the institutional guarantees of the financial system and create a more predictable environment for investors. Overall, the new Constitution is expected to serve as the legal foundation for further improving Kazakhstan’s investment policy and economic development.

«This creates more opportunities to build equal relations with major countries on the world stage, based on our Constitution and its principles. Overall, all of this aims to ensure the stability of our country, both domestically and internationally. This is precisely the position expressed by the Head of State. In this context, the Constitution can be seen as a comprehensive document that serves as a long-term strategic framework for the country’s development,» noted Nurlan Beknazarov, a member of the Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament.
