Kazakhstan continues to strengthen its status as a key educational hub in Eurasia. Foreign students are increasingly choosing Kazakh universities. More than 35,000 young people from nearly 90 countries are currently enrolled in universities across the country. According to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, their number has grown by 11% over the past year. The largest groups of international students come from India, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, China, and Russia. Almaty, Astana, and Shymkent are becoming major magnets for talented youth. With over 18,000 foreign students, Almaty has formed the largest educational cluster in Central Asia. Medicine, engineering, IT, and socio-economic programs remain the most popular fields among international applicants, reflecting global labor market trends. Foreign students note that their key reasons for choosing Kazakhstan include high-quality education at an affordable cost, international recognition of diplomas, strong educational infrastructure, and the growing network of global university partnerships.
«Students can pursue their
entire education in English. Currently, 35,000 international students are
enrolled in full-time programs in Kazakhstan. In addition, the country hosts a
significant number of exchange students who attend for one semester, totaling
around 3,000. Kazakh universities also have branch campuses abroad, for example, a
branch opened last year in Omsk, where 70 students are currently enrolled, and in Bishkek, around
1,300 students are studying at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University campus,
receiving a Kazakh education,» said
Alibek Madibekov, Director of the National Center for Higher Education Development of the Kazakh Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
