Kazakhstan has begun implementing a project to lay an underwater fiber-optic communication line across the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan. The new route is expected to boost the transit of international internet traffic and strengthen the country’s role as a digital bridge between Europe and Asia. As noted by Zhaslan Madiyev, Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, construction of the facility is planned to be completed by the end of the year. At the same time, world-class data centers are being developed in the country. In addition, Kazakhstan aims to expand its satellite production, with plans for their active export.
«The Ministry of Artificial Intelligence owns a complex for the production of domestically manufactured satellites. Active work has begun to utilize the capacity of this enterprise. Over the coming years, at least five to six Earth observation satellites will be produced there, including exports totaling $75 million. This is the first time in Kazakhstan’s history and represents the country’s most high-tech export to date,» Zhaslan Madiyev noted.
According to the ministry,
the rollout of high-speed internet across the country’s regions is continuing.
Over the next two years, more than 3,000 rural settlements will be connected to
fiber-optic networks, providing internet access to 99% of the population. At
the same time, the Last mile project is being implemented, under which
fiber-optic networks are
brought directly to households. The expansion of next-generation 5G mobile
connectivity is also underway, currently operating in 20 cities. Meanwhile, the
IT sector’s contribution to the economy continues to grow, with exports of
Kazakhstan’s IT services reaching $1 billion by the end of the year.
