At the eighth meeting of the Constitutional Reform Commission, Kazakh State Counsellor and Deputy Chair of the Commission Erlan Karin discussed the differences between the current Fundamental Law and the new one. According to Karin, the novelty of the new Constitution lies not only in its content but also in the clarity of its wording. He noted that complex and difficult-to-understand sentences are currently found in many articles.
«The 1995 Constitution, Article 13, paragraph 1, states: Everyone shall have the right to recognition as a person before the law and to the defence of his/her rights and freedoms by all means not inconsistent with the law, including necessary defence. What can be understood from this? Therefore, it would not be an exaggeration to say that there is a tremendous difference between the current Constitution adopted in 1995 and the new draft in terms of content, principles, novelty, language, and wording,» said Karin.
