Driverless taxi project to launch in Astana

Driverless taxis are set to appear on the streets of Astana. The project to introduce self-driving vehicles will be launched in the capital in 2026. According to the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, a preliminary route has been selected—from Astana International Airport to the Abu Dhabi Plaza shopping center. The initiative is being implemented as part of the smart city strategy and the development of digital infrastructure. The first phase will include the launch of a test site, with passenger safety designated as the top priority. Rides will be operated only after a risk assessment has been completed. Overall, experts note that in countries and cities where driverless taxis have been introduced, traffic accidents have decreased significantly—by up to 90%.
