All polling stations across Kazakhstan opened for voting in the referendum
on the new Constitution at 7 a.m. However, at 92 polling stations, voting began
an hour earlier — at 6 a.m. —
in accordance with decisions by territorial commissions. Among those voting at
that time were military personnel.
At Military Unit 6697 in Kostanai, conscript soldiers cast their ballots in compliance with all legal requirements. The servicemen noted that the referendum on the draft new Constitution holds special significance for the country’s future. In total, more than 300 people voted at the site, half of them for the first time.
«I am serving in Military Unit 6697. I am very glad to
be taking part in the referendum because we are the younger generation. The
future of Kazakhstan depends on us, and we must take an active part in events
like this,» said Pyotr
Nebyshinets, a soldier in the National Guard’s Military Unit 6697.
