Artificial intelligence is being actively integrated into Kazakhstan’s higher education system. Currently, 95 higher education institutions nationwide have introduced AI-related courses, while 30 universities have launched 42 specialized academic programs, ranging from applied AI and AI engineering to its use in medicine and industry. Nearly 3,000 students are now enrolled in these programs across bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD levels, the Kazakh Ministry of Science and Higher Education reported. Faculty training is being carried out in parallel, with more than 54% of teaching staff having already completed courses on the use of AI in the educational process. State-managed and secure AI tools, including ChatGPT Edu, are also being introduced to automate routine tasks, personalize learning, and improve the overall quality of workforce training. The ministry notes that these measures will enable universities to produce graduates equipped for the digital economy and a rapidly evolving labor market. To support this effort, branches of foreign universities are also being opened across the country.
«To train AI specialists, 12 foreign universities have
been engaged. In partnership with Seoul National University of Science and
Technology, a Higher School of AI and Informatics has been established at
Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University. A branch of City University of Hong Kong has
also opened at Satbayev University. Currently, 40 strategic partnerships are in
place across various formats, 33 of which are branches of foreign universities,»
said Kazakh Vice Minister of Science and Higher Education
Gulzat Kobenova.
