SME output in Kazakhstan rises by 25%

The output of small and medium-sized enterprises in Kazakhstan increased by a quarter in the first half of 2025, reaching 43 trillion tenge. According to the Ministry of National Economy, growth was recorded across five key sectors: trade, manufacturing, construction, transport and warehousing, as well as agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. Overall, the share of SMEs in the country’s GDP has reached nearly 40 percent, while employment in the sector has exceeded 4.4 million people - almost one-third of the economically active population. Amid rising business activity, Kazakhstan is strengthening support measures for entrepreneurs. Together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, plans are being developed to expand production at medium-sized enterprises by two to three times. Companies are undergoing diagnostics, and individualized development plans are being drawn up.

«Today, medium-sized businesses are primarily concentrated in the manufacturing industry, accounting for about 12% of the total output of small and medium-sized enterprises. There remains significant potential for further growth. In addition, these sectors have room for expansion, as existing production capacities, including those of medium-sized enterprises, are currently not being utilized to their full extent. The government will focus on developing medium-sized businesses in these sectors within the cooperation with the EBRD,» said Kazakh Vice Minister of National Economy Yerlan Sagnayev.

Meanwhile, digitalization remains a key element of the reforms. The launch of the updated eGov Business mobile application and the creation of the Digital Business Map allow entrepreneurs to access services through a one-stop shop model. More than 3.5 million digital services have already been provided, and the number of active users has exceeded 78,000.
