Senate Speaker: Referendum results confirm nationwide support for President’s agenda

Maulen Ashimbayev, Chairman of the Senate, the upper house of the Kazakh Parliament, emphasized the historical significance of the recent nationwide referendum on the new Constitution. He said the vote marked a key stage in the country’s political modernization and in implementing President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s agenda to renew the system of public administration. Ashimbayev highlighted that the active participation of Kazakh citizens and their support for the proposed changes reflect a high level of civic responsibility and trust in ongoing reforms. He noted that making key decisions based on the direct will of the people strengthens democratic institutions and enhances the role of citizens in governance. The new Constitution provides a modern legal framework for Kazakhstan’s continued socio-economic and political development. It aims to improve the efficiency of state institutions, develop the parliamentary system, and uphold the principles of a just state. Ashimbayev added that an important task ahead is to ensure the timely adoption of laws stemming from the provisions of the updated Constitution.

«This reform is a consistent continuation of the policies that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has been systematically pursuing since his election. As a result of this major effort, the People’s Constitution is being adopted. The next priority is to ensure the timely adoption of laws stemming from the new Constitution. I am confident that we will continue to serve our President, our country, and our state together,» Ashimbayev said.
