«Serious changes and transformation are currently underway. On March 15, a referendum will be held on the draft new Constitution. One of the key directions is strengthening the highest representative authority, merging the two chambers, and creating a single parliament. I am confident that this is a very necessary and timely step to further strengthen our parliamentary institutions. In the future, the Parliament of the Kurultai will actively interact both with you and with UN institutions. I am also confident that the Parliamentary Commission will continue its work on monitoring the SDGs, as this is not a matter of short-term considerations for us but a strategic area of work,» noted Maulen Ashimbayev, Chairman of the Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament.

«We are observing the latest political reforms including also the constitutional reform. So, now the referendum will be on March 15, and from the UN side we are ready to support on the legislative dimension, legislative matters, especially on the development and amendment of particular laws if the government requests such support,» said Sarangoo Radnaaragchaa, UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan.
