The national referendum on the new Constitution has concluded in
Kazakhstan. The official results of the vote will be announced within a week. According to preliminary data from the Central
Referendum Commission, voter turnout exceeded 73%. In total, over 9,126,000 Kazakh
citizens took part in the voting. The most active voters were residents of the
Kyzylorda region, with turnout slightly
above 93%, as well as the Aktobe and East Kazakhstan regions, where turnout
exceeded 86%. In Astana, more than 60% of citizens cast their ballots, while in
Almaty the figure was over 33%. Exit poll results also indicate
that the majority of Kazakh citizens
supported amendments to the country’s Basic Law. The Institute of Eurasian
Integration noted that about 87% voted in
favor of the new version of the Constitution. The Institute for Comprehensive
Social Research «Socis-A» presented the results of its exit poll, which showed
support from around 87.5% of citizens. Meanwhile, the
Institute of Public Policy noted that nearly 89% of Kazakh citizens voted in favor of adopting the new Constitution.
