Winter Olympic champion Mikhail Shaidorov and his coaches
were honored at Akorda following his triumph in Italy. During the award ceremony, President
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered a speech, describing the quadrennial
competition as a truly exceptional event for Kazakhstan. Thanks to the
athlete’s gold medal performance in figure skating, the state flag was raised
high above the Olympic arena. The Head of State emphasized that this victory
stands as a landmark achievement in the history of the country’s sport.
«Today, the entire nation is proud of Shaidorov, who has become a true role model for young athletes. Becoming an Olympic champion means embracing a challenge
and being prepared to overcome the toughest path. Above all, this is a historic medal that the Kazakh people had been
waiting for 32 years. Secondly, it is the first Olympic gold ever won by a
Kazakh figure skater. Thirdly, the whole world has witnessed that Kazakhstan is
home to outstanding talents who proudly continue the legacy of the
renowned figure skater Denis Ten,» Tokayev said.
The
President also highlighted the coaches’ achievements, emphasizing their
significant contribution to success. The Olympic champion, in turn, expressed
his gratitude to him and to all Kazakh citizens for
their support.
«Olympic gold is not the finish line for me. A long journey still lies ahead, and I will pursue it with a deep sense of responsibility to my country, striving to serve as a role model for the younger generation and continue bringing glory to Kazakhstan on the world stage. Thank you! I am proud to serve my beloved country – Kazakhstan!» Shaidorov shared.
Following the meeting, Tokayev presented
state awards. Shaidorov received the Order of Barys, 2nd Class, while the
coaches were presented with the Order of Dostyk, 2nd Class, and the Order of
Kurmet.
