A total of 12 projects for the construction and reconstruction of hydraulic structures are being implemented across six regions of Kazakhstan. According to Arsen Zhakanbayev, Chairman of the Water Resources Committee of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, work is underway in the Akmola, Almaty, West Kazakhstan, Kostanai, Kyzylorda, and Turkistan regions. The projects aim to increase the reliability of water infrastructure, ensure the safe accumulation of water, and reduce the risk of flooding during the flood season. By the end of the year, plans include completing the reconstruction of the Kapchagay reservoir in the Turkistan region, as well as a major overhaul of the Kirov reservoir in the West Kazakhstan region. As a result, the total volume of accumulated water is expected to exceed 96 million cubic meters.
«Overall, as part of the implementation of the tasks set by the Head of State, large-scale modernization is currently underway in the sector. These measures cover all regions of the country and provide for the construction of 42 reservoirs, the reconstruction of 37 reservoirs, as well as the repair and reconstruction of 14,500 km of irrigation canals. The Water Resources Committee prioritizes fulfilling the Head of State’s instruction to ensure 100% access to clean drinking water,» noted Arsen Zhakanbayev, Chairman of the Water Resources Committee at the Kazakh Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.
