Kazakhstan will begin marking new groups of goods using
Data Matrix codes. This digital economy mechanism allows products to be tracked
at every stage, from production or
import to the end consumer. Previously, six categories of goods were subject to
mandatory labeling, including footwear, pharmaceuticals, motor oils, and saiga
antelope horns. Digital tracking of goods has increased tax revenues by 1.5 times,
bringing an additional 98 billion tenge into the budget. The government plans
to expand the list of products requiring mandatory labeling to include jewelry,
vitamins, household chemicals, and cosmetics.
«The effects vary across different product categories. There
is no doubt about their effectiveness, as confirmed by government agencies. It is measured in billions of tenge, with growth reaching tens of percent. Digital labeling, which serves many purposes, has proven its effectiveness as a tool to combat the
shadow economy,» noted Bikesh Kurmangaliyeva,
CEO, Digital Economy Development Center.
The labeling system is integrated with government information resources, which helps reduce the volume of shadow trade. The use of digital codes on pharmaceuticals has resulted in budget savings of 85 billion tenge. The country has also created a National Product Catalogue, which contains over 17 million items. Manufacturers in this database are given priority when participating in public procurement.
