Kazakhstan-Japan trade hits $1.3 billion

Relations between Kazakhstan and Japan are developing dynamically. Ambassador Yasumasa Iijima emphasized that the countries are strengthening cooperation in key areas such as natural resources, transit, and humanitarian exchanges. Special emphasis is being placed on logistics, with the development of the Middle Corridor playing a central role. Japan is ready to provide comprehensive support for the project. According to the diplomat, the countries cooperation extends far beyond this area.


«Last year, around 10,000 visas were issued, and this figure is expected to increase by approximately half. The number of participants in the Japanese language proficiency test, held annually in Astana and Almaty, has also reached a record level. Japanese anime and manga are popular in your country and are being translated into Kazakh. The embassy plans to continue organizing events related to Japanese culture and hopes for interest and public support said Japanese Ambassador to Kazakhstan Yasumasa Iijima.


Kazakhstan and Japan established diplomatic relations in 1992 and today maintain active economic ties. This year, mutual trade turnover reached $1.3 billion. Kazakhstan mainly exports ferroalloys, tantalum, unwrought aluminum, and certain chemical and agricultural products. Imports from Japan include power generators, automobiles, and household appliances. Academic cooperation is also gaining momentum.

«There is significant academic mobility between Kazakhstan and Japan. This time, Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek is coming with a delegation from Kazakhstan. Our university is also planning to sign a joint cooperation agreement with the Kazakh Ministry of Science and Higher Education,» noted Serik Meirmanov, Vice President of Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University.
