Kazakhstan: Course toward reforms and technologies

Kazakhstan has entered a new stage of modernization, with reforms aimed at delivering long-term results. This was stated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in an interview with the Turkistan newspaper. According to experts, the macroeconomic results of 2025 confirm the sustainability of the chosen course. In the interview, the President placed particular emphasis on transport and logistics potential and the agro-industrial sector, describing them as key drivers of job creation and regional growth. Digitalization also remains firmly in focus. The Head of State has declared 2026 the Year of Digitalization – new technologies and AI are expected to boost productivity and enhance the quality of human capital.

«I think that, in general, our social policy and our approach to human capital development should be closely aligned with national economic priorities. Digitalization and artificial intelligence are now present in all spheres of life, and therefore these technologies should become a factor in boosting productivity said Anna Alshanskaya, Head of the Economic Policy Analysis Department at KazISS.

Another strategic area is agriculture, which is directly linked to the well-being of citizens. In an interview with the Turkistan newspaper, the President emphasized the need to increase the efficiency of the agro-industrial complex and to return to agricultural cooperation. According to the Head of State, a significant volume of state support is being directed to the sector, and the key task today is to ensure its maximum effectiveness and enhance its export potential.

«The Ministry of Agriculture is currently developing a comprehensive plan for livestock production development through 2030. We have submitted our proposals. There is still much to discuss, especially since the Prime Minister has instructed us to take measures to develop livestock production and meat exports. I think progress will be achieved. The President noted that there have been advances in crop production, and we recorded a good harvest, which we can export – a lot of our products are in demand,» noted Akpar Maulenov, Deputy Chairman of Kazakhstan Farmers’ Association.
