Kazakhstan, AIIB implement $2.6 billion projects

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a strategically important partner for Kazakhstan in implementing infrastructure projects. This was emphasized by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during a meeting with the Bank’s President, Zou Jiayi. The Head of State welcomed the signing of the Partnership Framework Agreement, which will promote economic development and strengthen regional cooperation.

«We have very good projects by the way, nine of them, and the total amount of those projects we have with the Bank is more than $2,6 billion. And I believe that all of them will become very important items of our further contacts and cooperation,» Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted.

The parties noted that the potential for cooperation is very high, especially as Kazakhstan intends to modernize its infrastructure sector in the coming years. Notably, the AIIB is currently financing several major projects in Kazakhstan, including the construction of a wind power plant, sections of the Zhezkazgan–Karagandy and Aktobe-Karabutak-Ulgaisyn highways, and a railway bypass around Almaty.

«First, I would like to thank you for your kind words and for your long-time support to the AIIB. I am very much honored by the trust that Kazakhstan and other shareholders placed in me. And I will ensure the continuity of the Bank based on the achievements of its first decade and also pursue the progress to be more responsive to the evolving and dynamic demands of the clients,» Zou Jiayi said.
