A unique New Year tree has appeared in Astana. Installed near the Baiterek monument in the center of the capital, it is decorated in the national patchwork quilt style. Over 50 craftspeople participated in decorating the tree, creating more than 100 ornaments - not only traditional New Year symbols, but also other magical characters. According to the organizers, the tree has become not just an art installation and festive decoration of Astana, but also an example of the development of the creative industry based on the preservation of Kazakh traditions.
«We wanted to show that craftsmanship and creativity can bring joy,
kindness, smiles, and the warmth of human hands to people. This project brings
generations together, uniting not just three, but four generations, as
grandmothers participated alongside their great-grandchildren. Through this
initiative, we wanted to demonstrate that all people are equal and that anyone can
contribute and do good. I am proud to note that New Year trees in the traditional kurak korpe style are
now being created around the world, although we were the first to make ours
five years ago. This year’s innovation was the creation of the ornaments, and I am
confident that in the coming years, others will begin to follow Kazakhstan’s example,» said project author and organizer Rakhima Mukusheva.
«I knitted a teddy bear and some rabbits for children, to bring them joy, so they could have fun playing with them, a and so they would find them cute and heartwarming. It’s not only grandmothers who knit. Knitting is a hobby, a way to relax. When you knit something with care, you do it from the heart. It carries memories and happy moments,» shared project participant Assem Zeinolla.
