Kazakhstan begins evacuation of citizens from Middle East

The first group of Kazakh citizens arrived from the UAE amid the escalating situation in the Middle East. FlyDubai transported 306 passengers from Dubai to Almaty and Astana.

«Following a decision by FlyDubai, the flight operated for Kazakh citizens who had bought tickets before February 28 but were unable to depart on March 1 and 2. The UAE has closed its airspace, and many airlines are not operating flights. However, national carriers are being allowed to fulfill obligations to passengers, which made yesterday’s departure possible,» said Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Bakayev.

The Kazakh Ministry of Transport notes that Kazakhstan is ready to deploy up to six aircraft from Air Astana and SCAT once UAE airspace fully reopens. Meanwhile, Kazakh citizens currently in Saudi Arabia are also expected to return home tomorrow. Earlier, 50 Kazakh citizens were evacuated from Tehran, according to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry. Agreements were reached with the relevant authorities of foreign countries to facilitate the evacuation of Kazakh citizens from Iran through neighboring countries. Kazakh diplomatic missions are continuously monitoring the situation and maintaining constant contact with local authorities and citizens to provide consular and legal assistance. According to the latest data, approximately 8,000 Kazakh citizens are currently in the Middle East.
