Increase in youth civic engagement discussed in Astana

Experts and young representatives from Kazakhstan discussed key provisions of the draft new Constitution today at the Jastar X dialogue platform in Astana. Participants highlighted that the document addresses issues important to young people, including the development of education, science, and technology, as well as the protection of digital rights and personal data. The discussion also touched on youth civic engagement and their contribution to the country’s development. Experts noted that today’s young Kazakh citizens are active and eager to participate in decision-making, and that such engagement helps build strong democratic institutions in the country.

«Youth are a strategic resource for Kazakhstan. They are a long-term partner of the state, capable not only today but also in the coming years of supporting major changes in political processes. Today, the country faces significant transformations, and as active participants in civil society and representatives of youth, we are, of course, ready to support them,» said Guliskhan Nakhbayeva, Director of the Jastar Research Center.

«What is the purpose of a referendum? It ensures that decisions are made openly, with the participation of the people, with each individual making a conscious choice. This Constitution and these changes are important for every citizen. That is why I believe that active civic participation is a hallmark of a mature civil society,» said Zhanna Assanova, member of the Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament.
