Kazakhstan’s rail transit freight up 20%

In 2025, rail cargo transit through Kazakhstan reached 33 million tonnes, marking a year-on-year increase of more than 20%. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was informed of this by Talgat Aldybergenov, Chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), during a review of the company’s performance over the past year. Tariff cargo turnover rose by 10%, while export shipments grew to around 90 million tonnes. Overall, total rail transport exceeded 320 million tonnes. Kazakhstan is actively developing its transport infrastructure. On the newly commissioned second track of the Dostyk-Moiynty section, six million tonnes of cargo—over 100,000 wagons—have already been transported. Operational traffic has also begun on the bypass line of the Almaty railway hub. Construction and modernization of railway infrastructure are ongoing, covering a total of 3,900 km. KTZ is also implementing digital initiatives using artificial intelligence. The President has instructed the continued transformation of the national company and the further development of multimodal logistics.
