Gross domestic product growth must be reflected in
citizens’ real incomes, and this is currently a key task for the
government, President
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at an expanded government meeting. Kazakh expert Aibar Olzhayev noted that this will
change the approach to governance and strengthen the accountability of
government agencies.
«This key performance indicator (KPI) is a measure of
government performance, the main objective of which is to shift from
macroeconomic indicators to the real well-being of the population. If
people’s living standards are improving, it will indicate that the government
is doing its job effectively. Previously, such a
paradigm – that is, KPIs – did not exist. Therefore, we can say that the overall
assessment of government performance will change starting in 2026,» Olzhayev said.
Infrastructure development is another key focus. According to experts, the completion of strategic roads, the launch of new production facilities in the regions, and the modernization of utility networks will create new impetus for Kazakhstan’s consolidation as an industrial and logistics hub in Eurasia.
«Investors come only where they are
confident that their investments will be protected. Compared to other countries
in the region, we are doing well. We must continue moving forward. Every project creates new jobs. We have a good example in
the city of Saran in the Karagandy region, where a tire factory was built and our buses
are assembled. It has now become the new economic center in the region,» noted Rassul Kospanov, political scientist and senior researcher at the National Analytical Center at NU.
