Geological exploration, expansion of gas processing capacity, and infrastructure development were outlined as key priorities in the gas sector during a briefing to the President of Kazakhstan by the Chairman of QazaqGaz. According to Alibek Zhamauov, as part of efforts to develop the resource base, the Barkhannaya field within the Amangeldy group has been brought into operation, while work is ongoing at the Maldybai field in the Zhambyl Region. At the same time, amid growing domestic gas consumption, the company has also focused on the gasification of towns and cities, including Astana and its agglomerations. Overall, more than 400,000 residents of Kazakhstan gained access to natural gas last year. One of the major milestones of 2025 was the completion of the Taldykorgan–Usharal gas pipeline, finished one and a half years ahead of schedule. The President was also briefed on the progress of major infrastructure projects, including the second line of the Beineu–Bozoy–Shymkent main gas pipeline and a gas processing plant at the Kashagan field with an annual capacity of 1 billion cubic meters. In addition, the QazaqGaz Chairman highlighted the digitalization of the industry. Under the Aqyl Energy initiative, gas supply accounting and management processes are being digitalized using artificial intelligence and data analytics.
«Our top priority is to ensure an uninterrupted gas supply to both the population and the country’s economy. We are fulfilling all of our commitments in this regard. Contracts and agreements have been signed, including for subsoil use at the Saralzhin site, a joint exploration agreement for the prospective Kamenkovsky block, and agreements on joint activities at the Severny-1 site. Following the meeting, the President issued a number of directives for the development of the gas sector,» Zhamauov said.
