Kazakhstan plans to increase sea freight volumes

Kazakhstan plans to boost its sea freight volumes. According to the Mangystau region’s administration, two ferries are set to begin operating in the first half of next year on the route Kuryk – Alat, Azerbaijan. By 2027, their number is expected to expand to six vessels. This will also enhance the efficiency of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. The port of Aktau is a key hub along the corridor. The European Union has allocated a 10-million-euro grant to extend two berths and purchase weather-resistant cranes for cargo handling. The modernization will increase the port’s capacity and enable it to service four full-size vessels at the same time.
