Kazakhstan and Iran have set an ambitious goal to
increase their mutual trade turnover to $3 billion. In the first nine months of
this year, it exceeded $310 million, which is almost 50% more than in 2024. The
main driver of growth was Kazakhstan’s exports, which nearly tripled due to
shipments of agricultural products. Iran, in turn, supplies Kazakhstan with
dairy products, potatoes, and plastic goods. Business cooperation is also
continuing to expand - 658 companies with Iranian capital are currently
registered in the country.
«The growth dynamics of our trade and economic
relations are driven specifically by Kazakhstan’s exports to Iran. In other
words, this reflects the demand for Kazakh products and the supply of goods
that are sought after on the Iranian market. These are clear and direct
economic opportunities for the country. The ambitious threshold of three
billion is generally considered achievable given Kazakhstan’s export potential,»
noted Miras Zhiyenbayev, Advisor to the Chairman of the
Board for International Affairs and Initiatives, Maqsut Narikbayev University.
The main focus of cooperation between the two countries remains logistics, specifically the development of multimodal transport routes. Today, Kazakhstan and Iran are shaping the southern branch of the international North-South corridor, which connects Central Asia with the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean. The key hubs of this route are Iran’s Bandar Abbas port and Kazakhstan’s Aktau. This connection enables businesses in both countries to reduce delivery times by nearly half. According to experts, in the coming years Kazakhstan-Iran relations are expected to develop actively in three main areas: logistics, industry and the agro-industrial sector, as well as energy and petrochemical cooperation.
