Kazakhstan will continue
developing its aviation hubs. Construction of a second runway is set to begin in Astana and Shymkent,
while terminal reconstruction is planned in Almaty and Atyrau. In 2026, new international
air routes to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East are also expected to be
launched. In addition, the network of destinations across Central Asia and the
CIS will be expanded. According to Saltanat Tompiyeva, Chair of the Civil
Aviation Committee, these measures aim to strengthen the country’s transit
potential, improve the quality of air services, and enhance regional
accessibility.
«The construction of a second runway is planned at Astana and Shymkent airports, alongside the reconstruction of the domestic terminal at Almaty Airport and major apron repairs at Aktau Airport. At the same time, a number of regional projects are being implemented, including the start of construction of a new terminal in Atyrau and the reconstruction of Pavlodar airport. In line with the Head of State’s directives to improve transport accessibility to tourist destinations, the construction of airports in the resort areas of Katon-Karagai, Zaisan and Kenderli is set to be completed, as well as the restoration of Arkalyk Airport,» noted Saltanat Tompiyeva, Chair of the Civil Aviation Committee at the Kazakh Ministry of Transport.
In
addition, the development of a joint civil aviation plan with the ICAO is set
to be completed in 2026 and will define the sector’s development strategy
through 2050.
